Butterfly died at six thirty this morning. She has taught me so many things, and now one more: life is fragile, well-being is fragile, but love is the strongest substance there is.

I loved you with all my heart Miss Butterfly, and I always will.

Rachel, my heart is with you and your family right now, so sorry to hear of Butterfly’s passing. Rest in peace, sweet girl.
Thank you.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I felt so sad reading this and seeing her sweet photo. So true the love (powerful love) remains in our pained hearts when they pass all too soon. Take good care.
Thank you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Hold Miss Cricket close (or as close as she’ll allow) and honour Miss Butterfly’s memory as best you can while you process your grief.
Thank you (you know Cricket so well!).
I think she’s a kindred soul to my Patience, who is also very much her own dog, and while I love her dearly has not been cuddly since the loss of Miki. 🙂
It was so sad to read your news. You have my sincere condolences. Losing a loving pet such as Butterfly is heartbreaking. It isn’t any consolation I know but Butterfly was a very lucky dog to have such a caring human.
Purrs,
The Cat
Thank you. Purrs are very comforting right now.
My condolences.
Thank you.
Oh Rachel, I am so sorry for you and Cricket. I hope she went peacefully. 😓
Thank you.
Sorry/sad/heartbroken can’t begin to describe the hot tears I am crying. I send you hugs, for you, for your mom, for Cricket. I am grateful you shared so much of her joy.
On my walk around 6:45 this morning one of the other ladies exclaimed, “oh, look at this big butterfly,” and I asked was it a light green and she said yes and I said “it’s a Luna moth”. When I went to look it had clearly just dropped from its cocoon so I gently picked it up and placed it on a small limb.
That’s beautiful!
Thank you. I’m so glad people had a chance to know my baby, and love her.
Oh no, I’m so sorry! It’s so hard to say goodbye to our fur babies.
Thank you.
Oh, what sad news. I’ve had to pen those words many times myself over the years, so I know how your heart is aching. They are such dear companions, and they leave such holes behind. As a Catholic, I love these words of Pope Francis: “One day we will see our animals again in the eternity of God. Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures.” Thanks for sharing so many stories of Butterfly. All of you, and Cricket, too, will miss her.
Thank you. Paradise sounds like a wonderful place if Butterfly will be there.
As I clicked ‘like’ it occurred to me that could be misconstrued in far too many ways… I liked your stories about your dear little Butterfly and thought she was a great little dog. However, I also believe that love can transcend death because it becomes part o the soul, which is eternal. Thus, in a way, your beloved furry friend will always be with you, but dealing with change is always unpleasant. My condolences.
Thank you.
My heart goes out to you and my thoughts will be with you today. The only bad part about having pets in your life is losing them. I hope the pain transitions to smiles and laughter at fond memories quickly.
Thank you.
I’m so sorry, Rachel, to hear about your wonderful, beloved Butterfly.
I know how much this hurts. My thoughts are with you.
Thank you.
Sweet Butterfly is waiting for you on the Rainbow Bridge. One day you will be together again. xo
Thank you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Our pets are with us for such a short span of time yet we come to love them like our children. My heart aches for you.
Thank you.
So sorry for your loss.
Thank you.
Rachel: I just did our morning email checks…. I am very, very sorry to hear of Butterfly’s passing. I know what a sweet girl she was and what a boon companion she was to Cricket. I guess you warned us this was a possibility in your essays but I didn’t think it would be so soon. As we do here when one of the beloved Rescues crosses the Great Bridge, we will light a single stick of incense for Butterfly and bow once in to each of the Four Winds. We will ask the Gods to open their arms wide to receive and keep your little girl until you/we all meet up again. Peace and blessings to her, to you, Cricket, and your extended family. I’m sure is looking down at you and saying, “Don’t be too sad, Mommy. I’m going to be okay. Thank you for being my mom. I love you all. Until we meet again.”
Thank you. The image of warm and loving energy embracing my little Butterfly is very comforting.
I’ m so sad, the pain you must be feeling I’m sure is overwhelming! ❤️
Thank you.
Oh, my heart breaks for you, Rachel. Peace to you and your mom in the days ahead.
Thank you.
I’m so sorry. They are our babies. She was so lucky to have you, your mom, and Cricket in her life. Hugs to you.
Thank you.
Rachel, I am so sorry to read this – I am up to my eyes in moving back to France, and then to a new house there, so have not ben reading The Sunday papers – but have saved all.
I thought it was strange that you posted on a Wednesday, so I opened this mail to find this sad news.
All of us on here have grown to love Butterfly and Cricket and your wonderful stories – they remind me SO much of the Derek Tangye stories about his cats.
My heart goes out to you, I know little butterfly will be sorely missed by you and her petit ami, Cricket.
God bless xxx
Thank you.
These words I type won’t bring her back, but I am so sad. You gave sweet little Butterfly the best life. No matter what anyone might say, I think dogs go to heaven, and I think she will be there when it’s your turn to leave this earth. I have lost two dogs in my lifetime that had me wrapped around their paw. There is no easy grief. As Mama Cormier said above, “My heart aches for you.” (((Rachel))).
Thank you.
So sorry for you, Rachel. Wishing you only the best in the future
Thank you.
No!!! Oh, Rachel–I am so sorry. To let you know I’d read I ‘liked’ this post, but please don’t think I liked your news…
Thank you.
