Goodbye, My Ellie

Ellie died at home early Monday morning, after not eating much the previous day. She had her final bedtime hugs and scratches and then went to get a drink of water and rest by her wee wee pad, and by morning she was gone

A friend suggested that Cricket was getting bored alone in heaven and tapped Ellie on the shoulder, telling her to come sooner. I can believe that of Cricket, and I can believe Ellie would do that for her sister, but she is so deeply missed here on earth.

It’s hard to find words for the loss of Ellie, on top of the loss of Cricket just two months ago, which has left the apartment so completely dogless. My greatest consolation is that Ellie knew how deeply she was loved, and we know how completely she loved us.

Meeting Ellie
Ellie’s first sleep at home
Ellie’s first complaint
Freedom from the harness
Ellie in therapy
Cricket and Ellie team up
Ellie in the snow
Happy Ellie
Ellie the gardener
Goodbye my Ellie. I will always miss you.

  10. Dammit. Hearts here Rachel and great pics of a life well Ellie spent. It’s not much consolation right now but you were, obviously, a really good dog mom and Ellie and Cricket couldn’t have asked for more in a dog’s with humans life.

  11. When we adopt a dog, we know we are signing up for heartbreak along with the joy they bring us. Knowing doesn’t make it any easier in the end….I am so very sorry for your loss of Ellie so soon after Cricket.

  13. I am so sorry for your loss. It’s never easy, but losing Ellie so soon after Cricket is a hard blow. I think Cricket calling Ellie to keep her company is definitely what happened based on their dynamic on earth. They’ll be keeping an eye out on you and your mom for quite some time. *hugs*

  14. What a lovely life she had with you. Someone shared this, for you perhaps I think
“It came to me that, everytime I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog that comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

  31. I am sorry that you didn’t have more time with Ellie, especially since she had just lost her sister a little while ago. I know it will feel strange without the patter of puppy feet in your home, but I suspect Cricket and Ellie are tapping their feet in time together. And I am hoping that their beat sends a message to you that they loved you as much as you loved you as much as you loved them.
