About

I am a fiction writer trying to learn how to write memoir, in small manageable bites. My dog, Cricket, is small and she bites, so I thought she could help.

Cricket is a fourteen pound Cockapoo (cocker spaniel/poodle mix), born on July 13th 2007. She has a strong grasp of the english language, when she wants to. But, most important, she is my social bridge. In the real world, she drags me outside to meet my neighbors, and random strangers with dogs who smell interesting. I’m hoping she can act as my social bridge online, as well, despite the lack of obvious smell.

update: We added Butterfly to the family on November 20th 2012. She was rescued from a puppy mill at eight years old and has added years to the life of this blog.

update: Miss Butterfly died at age 12 and 3/4, after almost five years of wonderfulness. It took us a year to find a new dog to keep Cricket company, but I’m pretty sure Butterfly found Ellie for us. Ellie came to us in July of 2018, a five year old Havanese, recently retired from a breeder.

I recently self published my first novel, Yeshiva Girl, with Amazon. Please check it out!

  3. HI, Rachel! Just wanted to stop by and thank you again for visiting my blog and liking so many posts. I really appreciate your support. BTW, have you noticed the amazing resemblance between my dog, Gabi, and yours? Gabi is a failed teacup poodle; weighs just under 14 pounds and stands 11 inches high, born 12/12/05 so she is getting up there.

  4. Hi Rachel,

thanks for having a look at my Wordless Wednesday effort. I’m just getting into this bloghop stuff.

I see you’re a fiction writer looking to get into memoir writing. I guess I’m the other way around – my first book effort is about my Petcare business (mainly humorous, but also compassionate, I’m told) so that’s kind of ‘memoir.’ Butt I’m now starting out on a fantasy / comedy.

Cockapoos are lovely wee dogs. I walk one in my Thursday lunchtime pack – (Li’l) Louis – you can see him on the second row of the gallery, here. http://leadingpetcare.com/gallery/

    Cheers

  23. Hello Rachel, thank you for liking so many of my recipes. Is there anything you would like me to have a go at making? Bearing in mind I live in a small fishing village in Scotland and the access to really unusual ingredients might be a bit of a problem. I really enjoy reading your posts about Shiva and going to the synagogue, punctuated with pictures of Cricket.

Although I haven’t closed Stanton Sunshine down, I have a new blog, Inner Sunshine, that I hope you will visit. 🙂 (www.innersunshine.net) Please comment if you are not able to reach it…sometimes it plays tricks on people! I really love your writing and your dogs. It helps me to see dog pictures….I grew up with dogs and not cats. My husband is opposite and has dog allergies. 😦 So, we are mom and pop to two cats, Micah and Rachael. Hope to talk with you again soon!
