When it’s time to go to sleep at night, my dogs are pretty consistent. Butterfly sleeps on my bed, with her ducky under her chin, and a towel under her, because she makes such a mess with her chewies. Cricket sleeps on Grandma’s bed, guarding her from the night monsters. If necessary, she curls up on Grandma’s head to ward off bad dreams.
But during the day, the girls can sleep almost anywhere.
As a puppy, Cricket could fit herself into some pretty strange places.
She could sleep in her bed
Or out of it.
As she got older, she found other places to sleep.
When Butterfly first came home, she was afraid to relax and let her guard down. She would get so tired, but still refuse to lie down, so she would start to fall asleep sitting up. She would wobble form side to side, her eyes flickering open and closed, and finally, she would slide down to the floor in defeat.
She’s more comfortable now, sleeping in her own bed.
Unless Cricket has usurped her bed.
Even then, she Butterfly still has plenty of sleeping options.
But my favorite is when they are both worn out from a long walk outside and they are fast asleep in their beds at the same time.
And I can relax.

Let napping puppies lie because that’s when they’re the most adorable!! Precious, precious, precious…
I have to tip toe around them or else they wake right up and think it’s time to go outside.
I gotta get my beauty sleep, even if I look ugly doing it.
I can’t believe you are ever ugly, Kyla. Impossible.
I always thought I preferred cats over dogs, but after seeing your adorable dog I will have to reconsider! So adorable!
I think it should be cats AND dogs, and elephants, and koala bears, and a baby giraffe would be great. I may have to move.
Such adorable photos! You’re inspiring me to get out the camera — or at least the phone! Or at least get more sneaky! LOL
You really do have to sneak around those puppies to catch them in the cutest positions. they get very snotty if i wake them up.
Awww that is so cute! The “fallen cow” pose looks a bit like a “shot cow” with the legs stretched and the tongue hanging out of the mouth^^
so very cute pics! love how you captured the sleeping positions! lol
I’m terrified they’re going to learn how to use the camera and take pictures of me. I’m am not as cute a sleeper.
Ranger says that he would love to post a picture of his humans sleeping. What a great idea!
File this under “TOO CUTE I CAN’T STAND IT!” Adorable, simply adorable! 🙂
It does get strangely painful to be around so much cuteness.
They’re sooooo cute!!! I just want to squeeze them!
If I try to squeeze Cricket she tries to bite my head. So, cute AND deadly.
hello rachel its dennis the vizsla dog hay anyplayse is a gud playse to nap!!! altho the best playse to nap is of korse sumwuns lap at leest that is wot tucker sez!!! ok bye
Cricket loves laps too, but Butterfly gets anxious. She prefers to sleep next to me with her elbow in my ribs, or her chin trapping my arm.
What a glorious set of photos of sleeping dogs! Very cute indeed 😉
They spend so much time sleeping, I could fill books with their different positions. they refuse to be bored, even when they are asleep.
Oh goodness…too cute beyond words…especially love how she snuggled in between the bookshelves, the suitcase and the one with her in the small doggie bed…love, so precious!!!!
When Cricket was a baby she squeezed herself into every small space she could find. Sometimes it was hard to find her between the phone books and the wall.
Great photos. My dog is currently lying in front of the front door and I can hear a soft growl. Don’t know why he throws himself in the face of trouble. I’d much rather hide!
Cricket is spread out on the floor, staring at me. She’s waiting for dinner, because she knows there’s cheese. Clearly there will be no sleeping until there is cheese.
As I learned when I got my first dog, “A tired puppy is a happy puppy!”
They’re adorable, no matter where they sleep.
Then I’ve got myself some very happy puppies!
I laughed at the ‘fallen cow’ pose.
Did you need the jaws of life to extract Cricket from between the two cabinets?
When Cricket was a baby she was all hair and very little actual body. She squeezed in behind and between everything. She’s a little more substantial now, but not much. She still folds herself in half and rolls herself in a ball, like Flat Stanley.
Ohhh that face! Kills me.
Every day!
What a wonderful, feel good post. Your pups are absolutely adorable! Their personalities just shine through and bring a smile to my face. 🙂
I’m so glad you like it! Thank you!
Just wanted to let you know that I have linked you in my post for the Super Sweet Blogger Award.
http://lifebeam.wordpress.com/2013/03/03/grateful-for-a-super-sweet-award/
Thank you so much!
Awesome i love Puppies Well They Are li’tl killer but still their expressions hummm they make me love them 😀 i Own German Shep. & She’s Really Drama Quine 😀
My girls think they’re drama queens, but they’re really all about the comedy.
A laugh out loud post and I totally understand the sleeping poses. I love the photos and especially the shots of Cricket with the tongue out of her mouth. Thank you for starting my day with a wonderful chuckle. : )
My girls love to make me laugh, they just don’t know how they’re doing it or what that strange sound actually is.
Can’t relate to puppy poses, but our cat has taken to spooning…the husband is not impressed.
I’ve seen some pretty funky cat poses in my life. My favorite was when my aunt’s cat slept on my chest when I was a teenager, knowing full well I was allergic to him. Sinister AND adorable.
Yes, that they are … 🙂
Great looking pup:) Tow of my boys are in the hospital as I type. They ate something that gave them a horrible virus. 😦
I’m so sorry to hear that your dogs are ill. I hope they’re feeling better soon!
Such cute, cute photos. I love Cricket in the suitcase. My late K9 sister Lexi used to crawl into my daddy’s suitcase. She was a rescue and, like Butterfly, she was very hesitant to fall asleep when she first came to live with us. She got over that!
Butterfly has gotten to the point where she has no problem sleeping. But she does have a problem with ME sleeping. She puts some very strict time limits on my unconscious time. Taskmaster.
There is something about the implied trust of an animal falling asleep in your house. My dogs sleep a lot, as dogs do. They wait patiently for something to happen but most of the time they just hang out nearby while I write. Weekends are more fun, particularly at the moment with two extra humans and a pup in the house, then it is back to boring old me constantly on the computer. The weather is too hot to get them out during the day so they have to be very patient at the moment. Loved the photos.
Cricket loves to curl up on the cables under the computer. I think she’s soaking up the energy. There are times when i think she’s picking up my email by osmosis.
So cute! Sleepy puppies are so adorable. 🙂
They really are!
Loving the suitcase pose! 😀
Isn’t she hysterical? She crawled in there herself, no help from me.
PETS ARE THE BEST!
Yes they are!
🙂
This is one of the cutest posts I’ve ever seen! I love sleepy doggies!!
Butterfly has taken to sleeping on a pile of Hello Kitty fabric. She really likes pink. They find new ways to be cute every day.
Awwwwww – too cute
It does seem like too much, doesn’t it? I think the girls need to tone down the cuteness for the sake of my sanity.
Seems like dogs can sleep just about anywhere! That’s amazing that she could even sit up while sleeping! 🙂
The force is with them. Butterfly has a little bit of Yoda in her.
Oh my God! I laughed so hard at fallen cow pose and so many others. Absolutely adorable puppies and photographs. Loved this post!
Thank you!
Super cute I love the documentation of the sleeping positions .
Thank you!
Every one of those pictures are just adorable. They both just look so cute no matter how or where they are sleeping. Hugs and nose kisses
Both dogs are now napping with grandma, all smushed together in a pile. I’m going to try and sneak in there with a camera. Wish me luck!
The pokey out tongue is adorable. 😀
Seriously. Too much adorable in one place.
Argh it’s all too cute! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
You’re so welcome!
They are so adorable! Thanks for visiting Rachel!
Thanks for coming by!
Adorable! Thanks for stopping by. We’ve often thought about getting a second dog but our Frances, needs to be in the alpha role all the time and she isn’t always the most friendly dog when it comes to sharing her possessions (including us) with other dogs.
I always thought Cricket was the only dog type, and she still thinks so. But even she would have to admit that there’s something to having another tushy around to sniff whenever you need some mood enhancement.
u beautiful beautiful pups! what would we do without them! give them a kiss from aunty donna please. Thanks for visiting my blog!
They LOVE kisses!
Fallen cow pose is too funny- both my 3 y/o and my 11 y/o goldens seem to have majored in that pose.Good entry!
It was a huge breakthrough when Butterfly mastered fallen cow pose. up until then she was afraid to relax. Now she rolls onto her back and shows her belly, but only when she’s sleeping.
Butterfly and Cricket are such cute pups! Thanks for stopping by my Blog today!
Thanks for the return visit!
Oh how cute. And good for Butterfly–I’m so happy she can relax now.
She’s sleeping near the computer right now, ignoring all that tapping noise.
Very cute.
Thank you!
Hi and thanks for letting me know you like my recipes at mittsandmeasures.com! I love your site! What would life be like without our doggies?!
Food and puppies, that pretty much covers my bases!
Adorable. I also love it when my two dogs tire themselves out.
It’s so much easier when there are two of them. Then they can tire each other out, without as much help from me.
sooo cute!
Isn’t it ridiculous?!
Those are some definite advanced yoga positions. Cricket makes it look a lot easier than it is!
Cricket has been practicing her yoga since she was a baby. She likes to give me corrections, with her superior knowledge and ability, by scratching my arm or leg or face when i am not living up to my potential.
Thanks for visiting my blog, reading, and liking, “Are We Famous Yet?” Cricket is adorable!
Thank you for the return visit, and shh, don’t let Cricket know how cute she is, I’ll never hear the end of her demands.
They are adorable. 🙂
Thank you!
🙂
OMG, they are so precious!
Gorgeous photos!
Thank you!
Great pictures-dogs never cease to amaze us with their abilities to adapt to places large and small-
Cricket always surprised me by how skinny she actually was under all of that hair, and Butterfly, who looks generously built most of the time, looks like a chihuahua after her bath.
