Nap Time For Puppies

When it’s time to go to sleep at night, my dogs are pretty consistent. Butterfly sleeps on my bed, with her ducky under her chin, and a towel under her, because she makes such a mess with her chewies. Cricket sleeps on Grandma’s bed, guarding her from the night monsters. If necessary, she curls up on Grandma’s head to ward off bad dreams.

But during the day, the girls can sleep almost anywhere.

As a puppy, Cricket could fit herself into some pretty strange places.

As she got older, she found other places to sleep.

When Butterfly first came home, she was afraid to relax and let her guard down. She would get so tired, but still refuse to lie down, so she would start to fall asleep sitting up. She would wobble form side to side, her eyes flickering open and closed, and finally, she would slide down to the floor in defeat.

She’s more comfortable now, sleeping in her own bed.

Even then, she Butterfly still has plenty of sleeping options.

But my favorite is when they are both worn out from a long walk outside and they are fast asleep in their beds at the same time.

And I can relax.

  12. Great photos. My dog is currently lying in front of the front door and I can hear a soft growl. Don’t know why he throws himself in the face of trouble. I’d much rather hide!

I laughed at the ‘fallen cow’ pose.

Did you need the jaws of life to extract Cricket from between the two cabinets?

    • When Cricket was a baby she was all hair and very little actual body. She squeezed in behind and between everything. She’s a little more substantial now, but not much. She still folds herself in half and rolls herself in a ball, like Flat Stanley.

  22. Such cute, cute photos. I love Cricket in the suitcase. My late K9 sister Lexi used to crawl into my daddy’s suitcase. She was a rescue and, like Butterfly, she was very hesitant to fall asleep when she first came to live with us. She got over that!

    • Butterfly has gotten to the point where she has no problem sleeping. But she does have a problem with ME sleeping. She puts some very strict time limits on my unconscious time. Taskmaster.

  23. There is something about the implied trust of an animal falling asleep in your house. My dogs sleep a lot, as dogs do. They wait patiently for something to happen but most of the time they just hang out nearby while I write. Weekends are more fun, particularly at the moment with two extra humans and a pup in the house, then it is back to boring old me constantly on the computer. The weather is too hot to get them out during the day so they have to be very patient at the moment. Loved the photos.

  35. Adorable! Thanks for stopping by. We’ve often thought about getting a second dog but our Frances, needs to be in the alpha role all the time and she isn’t always the most friendly dog when it comes to sharing her possessions (including us) with other dogs.

    • I always thought Cricket was the only dog type, and she still thinks so. But even she would have to admit that there’s something to having another tushy around to sniff whenever you need some mood enhancement.
